Overview

Connect Words is a 1-on-1 turn-based word game, where each player aims at scoring the highest score first or playing a “Knockout” move by forming a 4-letter word of the same colour tile to win the game instantly. The game features two game modes "Normal" and "Knockout" mode, each mode with different rules on how to score.

I worked on Connect Words as the sole Game designer at Streaming Creativity Game Studios during the entire development of the game.

My duties included: 

  • Writing documentation including a one-page, Concept document, GDD & project roadmap.

  • Facilitate brainstorming sessions with the whole team to develop the game vision.

  • Design and iterate the game’s features, mechanics and systems within the determined game vision, which included the following:

    • Player level progression

    • Game modes (Offline training against AI,  Normal & Knockout modes with different entry fees and rewards)

    • Scoring system and score visual feedback display

    • Daily quests system

    • Friend & send match request System 

    • Daily rewards system

    • Player profile information

    • Leaderboard (Local and Global)

    • Game IAP 

    • Player activity log (Player wins and loses)

    • Word log definition

  • Balance and fine-tune gameplay elements based on playtesting and team internal feedback.

  • Define and model the game’s economy.

  • Design and map out the tutorial flow, learning objectives, and accessibility.

  • Writing in-game content such as game mode rules, descriptions and names.

  • Collaborate with UI/UX designer to ensure the game’s UI and UX flow accordingly within the intended player experience.

  • Assist 2D and animation artists with listing and defining the assets required for each game mode.

  • Playtesting, Documenting and reporting bugs to the development team.
